Sassy's Emergency Pedicure

Donation protected
My name is Sassy and I am an 11 year old Pinto. Some of my favourite things in the world include turmeric in my grain, herding the chickens around, getting head scratches and MamaCoo the Holstein (I really like her even if she doesn’t usually return the feeling. Here you can see me trying to get her to play. She's good at ignoring me...)
I also really like to get into all sorts of scrapes! Unfortunately I have some of the worst horse luck around when it comes to these scrapes.

When I was a yearling I ran away from home and got hit by a car. I ended up with cuts and bruises and a broken pelvis but I got better and the vets even said I could still have foals! Then a while later I somehow managed to get my leg out of a trailer while going on a trip… Still not sure how that happened but it all worked out fine too. When I was older and wiser (maybe) I got to have that foal those vets said I could have. Except it wasn’t as easy as they thought it would be. After 2 hours and a hard pull I was almost done but my little filly was sure worth it! At the end of that summer when she was weaned it was decided I would retire though. Foaling just wasn’t worth the risk for me so I went to live with a new lady at a “leisure retirement pasture”. I became a slightly (or overly) chubby pasture friend to MamaCoo and some other cows and have been enjoying this relaxation for the past 3 years now. But last month my time was up and I found another one of those scrapes to get into.

I caught my foot on something, probably wire, and sliced it open. It wasn’t that bad but I’m an awful patient and keep making it worse. Maybe there’s Beaver somewhere in my family tree that make me really good at chewing through everything. Either way I seem determined to be a tripod. This week, while the cut has healed really, really well, I cracked my hoof right through. I’m told this has made it much more serious than before. Ooops! But really, after everything else I’ve been through it seems silly to be brought down by a broken nail!! So my lady is going to take me to a farrier who can wire me back together. I have terrible images of 80’s head piece braces going through my mind but hopefully it will help until I can heal and grow my hoof out. As you can see, it's not pretty looking right now so wiring shouldn't make it look any worse!
Unfortunately wiring is more expensive than even a shiny new set of shoes so my lady has brought my story here for a bit of assistance. I’m going to need extra help for the wiring and for follow up visits. Any little bit will be really appreciated and help out lots! And I promise to post updates and try to be a better patient. Less chewing for me! Maybe if I start chewing gum instead?

Anyway, thanks for reading my story and helping me out!

Love and Nickers,
Sassy
