Salemtown Board Co's New Shop

We are a social enterprise founded in the Salemtown neighborhood of North Nashville in 2012. As a company we exist to create jobs for the young men of North Nashville who are struggling to enter the job market. We firmly believe that outside of the home, the best place for a young person to learn the qualities of hard work, goal setting and an eye for detail is within the context of a job. We do this through the production and distribution of skateboards and other handmade goods out of our woodshop. These are the principles we were founded on and have only been hardened in our resolve as we have been in business these past few years.
The neighborhood around us has been drastically gentrified over the course of the last two years and it is our desire to get back into a neighborhood that needs employment/economic rehabilitation within the “inner-city” area of Nashville. There is the added urgency of the fact that our current space has been purchased and the new owners need us out as soon as possible.
The good news is that we have found a property that is perfect. The space is right in the middle of a part of town that is high crime, low-income with low-rated schools. All the businesses that could afford to leave have. As a company that exists to use the context of small business for the purpose of economic rehabilitation and mentorship, this is exactly where we want to be.
We already have a local tool manufacturer that is sponsoring equipment for the new space but we are looking to raise funds on top of that to assist with the rest of the build-out and cover the first year of rent and utilities. The total amount that we are hoping to raise is $35,000. Frankly we are in a season of need and are reaching out for support. Please consider how you can help us as we strive to use the context of employment to empower young men to take control of their own economic destiny.
