Saleem Toxic Mold Recovery Fund

December 8, 2014 – the day this family of three will never forget. The day that they were told not to return home. To leave everything they owned behind including their pets. The day they were told that their house was literally killing them.

There are a lot of details to this tragic story and you can read the long version here.  But in short, the Saleem family lost everything. They lost their home and everything in it. Everything. Every. Single. Thing. Hidden toxic mold in outrageously high levels forced them to literally walk away from their entire life.

This family has been exposed to deadly toxic mold and the mycotoxins it produced for seven years. And they had no idea. Yes, Jennifer and her daughter faced health nightmare after health nightmare but not once was mold ever mentioned as a potential cause. In fact, it was completely accidental that this family even discovered what was going on behind their walls and under their floors.

The Saleem’s house literally needs to be condemned and destroyed along with all their possession. The level of contamination and toxicity is that bad. Sadly, they have NO financial assistance with this. Their homeowner’s insurance does not cover a single thing. Even though the issues are caused by faulty construction, the law isn’t on their side. Loopholes and statutes of limitations prevent them from bringing a case against the builder.

The Saleems have spent close to ten thousand dollars they don’t have on testing of their home. In order to seek the appropriate medical treatment, they had to get a completely clear picture of what was going on in their home. The results of the tests were devastating. Their exposure to this toxic mold and the accompanying mycotoxins have put them at risk for permanent health problems including long-term and possibly permanent neurological issues. (That means that they have mold in their brains).

This family is a family who has always given back to their community. They give even when they themselves are barely scraping by. And now, they are the ones that need help.

The Saleems need a safe, mold free place to rent. This means they need money for a deposit. They need basic furniture. They need to restock their kitchen with the appliances Jennifer needs to be able to cook for her family. (And this is no small task as they have health issues that require all meals to be prepare from scratch without the use of packaged ingredients.) They need basic household items.

They need to find long-term, loving foster homes for their animals.  This will require that the animals be “remediated” to rid their fur and bodies of mold spores. Again, this is a costly venture times five well-loved pets who have been with this family for over 13 years. Sadly, they already had to make the heart breaking decision to put two of their fur-babies to sleep because of this devastating situation.

More importantly, the Saleems face tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills. Most of the treatment they will undergo will not be covered by health insurance.

Mold is unfair. You are left broken physically and emotionally. Financially it is devastating. The Saleems have literally lost their entire life. Starting over at ground zero halfway through your life is scary, stressful, and humbling. The Saleems have a long road ahead of them. A very long road. Please help this family begin to rebuild one small piece at a time. Any donation will make a huge impact on this deserving family.
