Running for Chloe

Donation protected
I ran the race in under my goal time and raised nearly $3000 for the Rombach family! I will no longer be raising money on this site. If you'd like to make a donation please go to the Rombach Family Recovery Fund!

On June 20th I will be running the NH-VT Covered Bridge Half Marathon in order to raise money for Chloe Rombach.

On December 9th, 2014, my close friend Chloe Rombach was hit by a car while crossing a crosswalk. The driver, apparently not realizing what she had done, continued to drive, thereby dragging Chloe under the vehicle and trapping her there until first responders were able to remove her, nearly a half hour later. She suffered a traumatic brain injury, multiple lacerations, and 3rd degree burns due to the extreme heat of the engine. Had the driver stopped, many of her more serious injuries could have been avoided.

Chloe underwent multiple complex surgeries to care for her injuries, and days after the accident had to be airlifted to Mass General to care for some of her more complex injuries. She is now at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem, MA, and while she is able to move her head and extremities, she remains largely unable to interact.

Several crowdfunding sites have already been established to help Chloe, Ed, Jeannie, and AJ, including multiple GoFundMe sites, a fundraising site to help pay off the Rombach's mortgage (https://www.crowdrise.com/casarombach/fundraiser/amyallisongray) , and Art4Chloe, an online auction (www.32auctions.com/art4chloe). Even with all of these fundraising efforts, which have been extraordinary and are a testament to how special Chloe and Rombach family are, Chloe's friends, family, and supporters have raised just a small fraction of what will likely be millions in medical expenses.

I have known the Rombach's since I was an infant at Sandy Island. Chloe, AJ, my sister, and I grew up on Winnipesaukee together. One summer at Pleasant Valley Camp, someone came up with the brilliant idea of having AJ be my counselor and Anna be Chloe's. Needless to say, things did not go well as Chloe and I saw AJ and Anna as silly peers and not as authority figures. After that summer, it felt as if the four of us grew close as a group, and these past few summers have solidified our friendships beyond sisterly relations.

As of last week, the furthest I had ever run was 3.1 miles. Ten weeks from now I will run 13.1 in order to raise money for my friend and for her family. I hope you will help me help the Rombach's.
