Nuestro amigo y hermano Berty fue diagnosticado con Cardiomiopatía y con Insuficiencia Cardiaca Congestiva (Congestive Heart Failure) desde hace ya siete años. La cardiomiopatía daña la tonicidad muscular del corazón y reduce su capacidad para bombear sangre al resto del organismo. "insuficiencia cardíaca" es alarmante, pero no quiere decir que el corazón haya dejado de funcionar de repente. Lo que significa es que el corazón no está bombeando como debería para llevar sangre rica en oxígeno a las células del organismo.
A pesar de su condición Berty siempre se ha distinguido por su alegría, entusiasmo, y vitalidad. Luz Enid Vega, su esposa, siempre ha estado junto a él en todo este trayecto. Almas gemelas que han sabido compartir su felicidad con todos los que hemos estado cerca de ellos. Seres creativos que han sabido sobrellevar su dolor y obstáculos en su vida con fe, amor y apoyo incondicional.
En vías de fortalecerse, Enid y Berty comenzaron a cuidar su dieta logrando eliminar sobre 150 libras de peso entre los dos. Sin saberlo, este maravilloso esfuerzo ha sido la decisión más sabia que ambos hayan podido embarcar. De acuerdo a los médicos, Berty se encuentra en una situación muy delicada, la cual, de no haber sido por el cambio que ambos realizaron, ya Berty no estaría con nosotros.
Hace un mes, la condición de Berty ha cobrado mayor intensidad. Su corazón funciona solo a un 20% de su capacidad. En estos momentos está recluido en el Hospital General de Tampa, Florida. Allí se le han realizado innumerables estudios. Al momento se le ha hecho biopsia del corazón, hígado tejido adiposo y medula ósea, resultando en un nuevo diagnostico de Neuropatía y Amiloidosis Cardiaca. En este preciso momento, y ante este cuadro, el equipo médico está en preparación para un muy posible trasplante de corazón.
El gran reto en esta ocasión es el poder lograr el gran milagro. Lamentablemente, toda esta situación surge en un momento muy difícil para ellos. Berty lleva cerca de seis años incapacitado, por lo cual solo recibe un mínimo de seguro social. El sostén económico de ellos ha sido provisto en su mayoría por Enid quien hasta el pasado 2 de abril tuvo su trabajo estable. Ahora queda desempleada por el cierre de las operaciones en la división en la que ella laboraba.
Siempre han estado para nosotros y ahora nos toca apoyarlos. No solo el estrés de la condición de Berty, pero el no saber de dónde vendrá el próximo ingreso, el saber qué tan caro saldrán todos estos estudios y cuál será el costo final de este posible trasplante, son solo algunas de las inquietudes que con nuestra ayuda deseamos poder sobrellevar.
A sus 41 años, Berty solo sueña con poder superar este proceso para poder continuar brindando su amor incondicional a su esposa, hija, familiares y amistades como siempre lo ha hecho. Con nuestra ayuda podremos hacer que su sueño sea realidad y mucho más tranquilo.
Our friend and brother Berty was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure seven years ago. Cardiomyopathy damages the heart muscle tone and reduces its ability to pump blood to the rest of the body. "Heart failure" is alarming, but it does not mean that the heart has stopped working suddenly. What it means is that the heart is not pumping as it should to carry oxygen-rich blood to the body's cells.
Despite his condition Berty has always distinguished himself by his joy, enthusiasm, and vitality. Luz Enid Vega, his wife, has always been beside him all this way. Soul mates who have been able to share their happiness with all those who have been close to them. Creative beings who have been able to cope with their pain and obstacles in life with faith, love and unconditional support.
Looking to strengthen their health, Enid and Berty began to take care of their diet and together they have lost about 150 pounds. Without knowing it, this wonderful effort has been the wisest decision that both have failed to embark. According to the doctors, Berty is in a very delicate situation, it had not been for the change that both performed, Berty would no longer be with us.
A month ago, Berty’s condition has taken on greater intensity. His heart is working only 20% of its capacity. Currently he is being held in Florida’s Tampa General Hospital. There, countless studies have been performed. At this moment they have done biopsies of the heart, adipose tissue, liver and bone marrow, resulting in a new diagnosis of Neuropathy and Cardiac Amyloidosis. At this very moment, after all these findings, the medical team is in preparation for a very possible heart transplant.
The challenge this time is to achieve the great miracle. Unfortunately, this entire situation comes at a very difficult time for them. Berty has been incapacitated for the last six years with only social security. The major income was provided mostly by Enid who until last April 2 had its stable work. Now she is unemployed by the closure of operations in the division where she worked.
They have always been for us and now we have to support them. Not only the stress of Berty’s condition, but not knowing from where money will come, not knowing what expenses will leave all these medical treatment and surgeries, and what will be the final cost of this possible heart transplant, are just some of the concerns that, with our help, we want to be able to help them cope with.
