My name is Marley Bowen, and I'm running my first marathon for nothing more than LOVE.
Three years ago I blew my knee out playing varsity rugby. After reconstructive surgery, I was told that running distance may not be a part of my future. Around the same time I also came out as gay. Two pivitol moments in my life tied together. Thus, I decided that I wanted to challenge myself further than I've ever done before and break a goal I thought was impossible. On May 29th I'll run 42km for love, equality, and for every kid who was told they can't.
This run represents so much that I have worked for, and the money raised represents my desire to give back, be a role model for kids everywhere trying to be themselves, and overcome what might seem to be insurmountable goals.
All the money I raise is going to be donated to the non-profit organization Get REAL. Get REAL is an anti-bullying program that works to promote inclusive environments for all. Over 80% of LGBTQ students experience bullying at school, due to orientation or gender identity. Programs like this not only help students unlearn homophobic & transphobic language, but they empower students to support others, and be proud to be themselves. Small or big, your donation will help Get REAL support youth across the country.
