Let's Go Haiti Half Marathon = 1/4/2015 Jacmel, Haiti
We are running to raise money to help build a school in Saint Michael Haiti. Please read below about TeacHaiti and the awesome work TeacHaiti provides to help educate the children of Haiti.
Why? TeacHaiti helps over 350 children attend school through the donation of sponsors. These are children that otherwise would not be able to attend school. TeacHaiti is a 501(c)3 non profit that was started by Miquette Denie McMahon in 2007.
Who is Miquette McMahon?
Miquette was born and raised in St. Michael Haiti. During her formative years she was in and out of school because of lack of funding. Going to school in Haiti is a privilage and unfortunately not all children get to attend. When Miquette was 9 years old, 2 of her younger sisters were adopted by a family in Detroit Lakes, MN. This family, the Lees, would keep a relationship with Miquette and her family over the next 10 years. In 2000 Miquette was given the opportunity to finish high school in MN. After graduating she stayed and became a Registered Nurse. Miquette was able to see first-hand the difference that education had made in her life. What could she do to "pay-it-forward" for so many others in Haiti that just needed a chance to succeed? In 2007 she had a vision for TeacHaiti. She would raise funds in the States to help the children of Haiti attend school. Her original goal of helping 10 children was exceeded to 41! Each year since TeacHaiti has grown and more children have been blessed.
TeacHaiti is a school sponsorship program which provides much more than education. With a strong focus on the familiy, TeacHaiti has expanded to helping the mothers and fathers of their students. Homes have been built and jobs are being provided through their jewelry program. Please check out TeacHaiti and consider sponsoring a child! We are running to raise $5,000usd for TeacHaiti to further the the efforts on the ground in Haiti! Specifically a school building in St. Michael.
