Fat Guy Goes Running: My#Run4Jo

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Carl and I've been fat my whole life. I've decided to make a change and get into the best shape I can. This story isn't about me though, it's about my high school best friend, Joel Aubin.

Diagnosed at 38 years of age, Jo has Alzheimer's. His wife Robin is by his side and along with family and friends, they're making the best of things, one day at a time.

You can read more (and I recommend that you do) about their battle here :
http://site.macleans.ca/longform/alzheimers/

Jo is in the fight of his life with a long road ahead of him (and Robin!). Quality of life, cost of future treatments and expenses related to his care will catch up, but even more so, they want to pay it forward. They can choose to contribute to the facilities and programs that have and continue to support them.

So what does this have to do with me? Unlike my buddy, Jo, I have a choice: To stay unhealthy or get fit and improve my life! I've made the choice to challenge myself each day, every week, every month to go farther, run faster and get better! I'm hoping you'll cheer me along!

I'm starting with a small 5k race. I have a 10k in July (planned), half marathon in December (registered) and if possible, a full marathon all this year.  This journey won't stop . By the end of 2017, I will compete in a 70.3 Triathlon.

100% of all donations will go directly to Jo and Robin to be used at their discretion. None of the donations will be withheld. Period.

What do I get out of this? I get in shape. And I get to feel like I'm helping out two dear friends.

What do you get out of this? Feel good. Tax receipt. Know you directly helped someone out.

Whether its $1, $5 or more, every single dollar counts.... Please feel free to share this and bring awareness to Alzheimer's and the families that are affected by this (currently) incurable disease.

As for me, even when it hurts I'm going to keep on truckin'. Jo doesn't quit, Robin does't give up - why should I?
