Send MPE to DI Globals in Tennessee

Donation protected
The 4th grade team from Merriman Park Elementary, Gravity 6.0, is raising funds to represent MPE at the 2015 Destination Imagination Global Finals tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Gravity 6.0  team members include Trixie Bryan, Hannah Deats, Jack Hollis, Roman LaVigne, Mary McMullen, and Maggie Wentzel.  The team is advancing to Globals after clearing at both the regional tournament and the Texas state tournament.

Destination Imagination ("DI") is an organization that sponsors and supports creativity among kids (www.idodi.org).  Starting in the Fall, DI announces several competition categories for teams to choose from that focus on skills such as acting, improv, science, and engineering.  All of the activities are student driven and the kids are responsible for creating and presenting their team solutions.  Gravity 6.0 is a "fine arts" team that has created their own fairy tale themed play.  The kids started working on their solution as soon as the categories were announced and they have been refining it every since.

MPE is a proud participant in DI activities, but this is the first time in a decade that we have advanced to Global Finals.  Our DI team is sponsored by the school district, but is parent lead and almost exclusively parent financed.  Academic and arts activities like DI help fill an important void in our kids' education as arts programs are facing funding cutbacks and schools are increasingly under pressure to perform on standardized tests.  DI kids are amongst the most creative, energetic, and enjoyable kids you will meet, and the kids on Gravity 6.0 are no exception.

Global Finals, which kicks off on May 20, hosts teams from virtually ever state and more than 30 teams from across the world.  Teams travel to the University of Tennessee to compete against the best of the best from around the globe.  That means registration, transportation, housing, and lodging expenses for the team, coaches, and parents.  Any support you can provide is greatly appreciated and all funds will be conservatively managed.  Any excess funds (dream big!) will be used to support MPE's DI program next year in the hope of bringing even more students to Global Finals in 2016.  #mpWe #MPEDIunited #thanks
