Bioremediation Collective
The Bioremediation Collective is a grassroots organization on the west coast, composed of people who care deeply about the coastal environment and want to play an active role in protecting against, and remediating, the destruction to our beloved coastal environment.
We are a collective of diverse individuals coming together to share our myriad of passions, experience, and expertise to create a movement at the frontlines of environmental preservation.
Our current project is one of Mycoremediation, a process of using oyster mushroom myclia to brake down toxins and oil left in water. This project was inspired by the recent oil spill in English Bay, and is geared towards preparing people of the coast to have enough mycelia growing to clean up this present and future oil spills.
Mycoremediation is a form of environmental repair that we will be applying to the coastal ocean, to the salmon streams, to polluted rivers and to freshwater lakes under threat of being toxic waste dumps on Vancouver Island.
