Robin Hood Braces

Hi, my name is Shaun Dadjoo and I'm a first year dental student. If you could change the world in one minute would you do it?

Our project is to provide a scholarship for braces, selecting 10 kids from across America, anyone can apply however we are seeking disadvantaged children who have exhibited early excellence in school work.

Your support of Robin Hood Braces can create a big change! We now know so much about the psychological and social effects of a persons smile. These subliminal judgements can effect a persons future career status. Studies show that when teeth are crooked, people are percieved to be less attractive, less friendly, and less intelligent. Children from poor socio-economic backgrounds suffer from this the most, as the cost for orthodontic treatment can be exorbitant.

Childhood is the ideal time for orthodontic treatment.  When our scholarship reciepents grow up, I believe that they will get better jobs because of their smile. As we raise our poorest children to greater standings in society, the motions are set in place for world peace.

Yes the idea is simple, but the consequences are huge!

We are hoping to raise $43,575 to treat 10 children with a class I or class II malocclusion. Braces can cost anywhere from $5,000-$10,000. However, with our contacts in the dental field I've estimated a discounted cost of braces equaling $4000 per child totaling $40,000. An additional $3575 is requested for the associated costs of fundraising.

In addition to braces we will be providing a comprehensive and integrated mentorship program spanning the length of treatment, which can take 20-34 months.  When these children see themselves in braces, they will not seek gangster images of themselves and will focus on their school work. We will guide these bright young minds towards positive influences.

In phase 1 of our project we will be fundraising to our goal of $43,575.

In phase 2, we will be reviewing applications with our strategic parterns including dental schools, orthodontists, local dentists, and our supporters.

In phase 3, the families of the children will be notified of their selection and begin treatment.  A comprehensive mentorship program will be executed to provide additional resources for these budding minds.

In phase 4, we will reach out to our students for a before and after interview.

So I asked you in the begining, if you could change the world in one minute, would you do it? Help us make the world a better, by pledging a donation today.

Arianna Huffington cites studies in her brilliant book Thrive that show exactly how the act of giving actually improves your physical and mental health. After all, we all know and realize that, "Life is about more than just me."

Please give as much as you are comfortable with. If you would like to give $1 million out of $10 million please do, but if you can't, give 10 cents out of a dollar! All contributions will help us make a positive influence in these childrens lives. And all supporters will be included in our phase 4 thanks.

Robin Hood Braces is an idea hatched by Joe Jamail and Shaun Dadjoo with special thanks to Morgan Alex Hahn, James Mason, and Hannah Dargahi.
