Rising Stars Sports Therapy

After graduating from the University of Gloucestershire with a BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy, I made the decision to apply for a volunteer program abroad to help gain more experience as a newly qualified Sports Therapist.
I travelled to Accra, Ghana in January for 10 weeks to take part in a volunteer Sports Therapy internship where I had the opportunity to work alongside a football academy called The Rising Stars of Africa.

The Rising Stars of Africa was estatblished in 2013 to give the opportunity to underprivileged yet talented young Ghanaians. The RSA helps to accommodate, feed, educate and of course, provides first-class footballing to all their players.
After my experience working with the academy I realised there was a lack of understanding around injury prevention and rehabilitation which had led to injuries either left untreated or incorrect rehabilitation, resulting in injury reoccurrence.
As a Sports Therapist I fully understand how crucial these aspects can be, especially at such an elite level. Therefore, I made the decision to go back to Ghana for a further 12 months so I can attend to the academy and the give them the full support that they need.
All money raised will allow me to help set up a Sports Therapy Department in Ghana. It will also go towards rehabilitation equipment, medical supplies and general upkeep of the academy. All donations, whether they are big or small would be greatly appreciated!!
