My name is Riley and I am 8 months old,since being 6 weeks old I have always had very itchy skin that would flake off if I scratched. I would wear socks on my hands, mummy and daddy found these better than mittens as it would take me longer to get them off!
when I was given a spoon of cow and gate baby porridge to try I had a very bad reaction to the milk content. I was rushed by ambulance to kingsmill hopsital with life threatening aniphilaxis .The paramedic asked mummy to phone daddy and get him home from work quickly , they wasnt sure if I would pull through.luckily the multiple doctors in resus gave me lots of medicine and I pulled through.
After this I had many other admissions into hospital with simular aniphilaxis reactions and no one knew the cause.mummy and daddy were given Epi pens for me for immediate help , because every second matters when I have a reaction. They would vary from little rashes, hives, eye swelling, or as severe as neck swelling and my airways closing.
After several blood tests we found out I was allergic to dogs, we had to give our doggy to a friend to look after as he made me too poorly . After having dogs in this house since we moved in 2 years ago, and the previous owner having cats for 8 years prior, we had to recarpet our house to improve my health.
I was told I was allowed to ween early, when I was 5 months old to help my weight , this is when the real problems started. I began having reactions to almost all the food I ate! Bananas, pork, parsnip, grapes, cauliflower and even potato.
I was referred to sheffield childrens hospital to see a specialist allergy consultant for more investigations, they also sent me to their specialist dermatology doctor who would make my skin better, or so I thought.We discovered after trying several emoliants that I am allergic to parrafin. That narrowed the list of creams down that I could try. My mummy and daddy have found one cream so far that suits my skin which is called childs farm- I use all their products ,from their wipes, nappy cream and moisturiser. My skin is still very itchy and dry but it doesnt feel quite as bad. Things change so quickly,every minute , hour, day, I can go from my skin looking its best, to worst. When it is at its worse, my allergies are airbourne and I cannot go near food , we have toothbrushes and wipes by the front door for visitors to use before coming near me.
mummy and daddy are trying to do everything to help me, they say they have nearly lost me too many times, but to continue to help me is costing so much, my childs farm products are over £100 a week, and I need all this extra space for my stuff to be kept seperatly to prevent contamination so they are planning on building a conservatory to create the space needed to do this we need to ask for help from you, every little bit will help to go towards the cost of all this that is needed to help keep me out of hospital as much as possible. If we were to raise enough money,we would be able to look into travelling further to find someone with more knowledge that could investigate why I react to so many foods .
