If you’ve met my dad you know his smile, his gift of gab, his passion to connect people and his love for our hometown, Pasadena.
My name is Tamyia “Tugené” Davis. I’ve started this Gofundme to support the needs of my dad, Richard Horton. He amazes me everyday and what he’s going through now is not only unimaginable but a story worth being told. I want to see him get the best care possible and let nothing hinder his full recovery because, if you know him, you know his work in healthcare & stroke awareness.
He is a two time hemorrhagic stroke survivor of 12 years. However, on December 8, 2023 he suffered an ischemic stroke. None of the strokes have changed my brother, Kareem, and I’s ability to continue sharing in the memories we've made with our dad since childhood. When asked how he’s doing, he wants people to know “I’ll get through this.” He’s made an impactful recovery before learning to walk, talk and become fully independent. With help, we know he can do it again!
Here’s a little more about our dad’s story…
The first year after a stroke is crucial in recovery. It will take more than $100,000 to get my dad the extra help he will need so this fundraiser is to start him on the right track to regain his independence. It will help prevent his own income from being burdened by copays, medical transports, moving expenses, extended rehab and extra support such as holistic and homeopathic medicine, uncovered assistive apps and devices as well as support services and home adjustments to aid in his mobility and recovery.
With this fundraiser I also want to let our dad know he has a community of people rooting for him. He's still in the hospital but his next step is an inpatient rehabilitation facility for therapy.
