Friends - Please take a moment to read this.

I do not often do something like this, but I believe there is a reason that I am writing to ask for your help!

On Sunday April 30th, as I drove around this city that I love so dearly, I was visiting areas preparing for the flood and I came across this small church called the Glencoe Community Church of God in this little section of Wildwood called Glencoe. The only reason I ever did go by there was because I knew the Wabash Frisco and Pacific Railroad was nearby. However, I came across this church that was preparing for the flood. I was truly struck in awe at the spirit of teamwork and comradery that I witnessed. People of all ages, families, working together to save and protect their church. What a wonderful sight that was to see in the midst of knowing about a tragic flood that was headed that way!

The next day, Monday May 1st, they were able to secure getting sand and materials to build a temporary wall around the church to keep out the flood waters due that night. All day, till about 3pm, trucks came in, one after the other, dropping off material, while friends and volunteers manned bobcats, moving it around to shape the wall. When I returned that night, they were finishing up the work as the water was inching up closer to the wall. I could see and hear it in everyone’s voices their joy and confidence that they had a fighting chance to survive this flood. I was convinced that this church would be saved. I felt the pride and heard the stories about the church, who built it, who was married there, who was engaged there and so forth. I could tell this was truly a memorable place for these folks.

On Tuesday May 2nd, I returned in the late afternoon and found out the tragic heartbreaking news that in the mid-afternoon a corner of the wall had given in with the force of the water and within 15 minutes it had flooded out the basement and was beginning to enter under the doors and into the vestibule. The church was surrounded by several feet of water at this point. It was tough watching all that hard work to protect the church go to waste. It was even tougher to see the looks of those that had sacrificed time and energy. They even spent the night in the church to make sure the pumps would run.

My happiness for this church community turned to sadness and defeat. All their energy had gone into rebuilding from the 2015 flood and depleted their funds. They had even done the work themselves. They were self-insured and after the first flood they had invested nearly $50,000 to recover. No one could have imagined another 100+ year flood 16 months later.

So I ask you, neighbors and friends, let’s help them!

Please consider giving a donation that you can afford to help them rebuild this church. With so many people on social media, if everyone could give something, anything, just imagine how much we could raise for this church!

Imagine how great would it be, if people from Wildwood, St Louis, and all over, could help restore the faith of this community by our actions!

All of us have the ability to turn this tragedy into a great story that we can all share, but we need to take action! Please donate.
