My name is Alexis, and I'm 20 years old. As far back as I can remember, I've always been naturally feminine and found girls to be extremely relatable. Unfortunately, despite the fact that in my head I felt I was a girl, I was born with male anatomy on November 6th, 1994.
Of course as a child, you're not aware of what the word "transgendered" means, so I would try and live my life as a boy(because that's what I was told to do) and act as much like a boy as possible. This resulted in people assuming I was 'gay' because I was so feminine, and I was constantly teased and bullied for always being friends with the girls and liking dolls, etc.
This didn't change until I was about 16, going on 17. I was extremely depressed, I told my friends that I liked boys, thinking that would give me the ability to express my feminine side more openly, wearing makeup, etc. Still, I didn't feel I was being 100% myself... portraying myself to be this "feminine boy," just didn't feel right.
I decided to go to my primary care physician with my father, and told my doctor that I feel I mentally identify as a female. He pointed me towards a counselor, where I persisted to go through with Hormone Replacement Therapy when I was almost 18.
That was 2 years ago. I've been living my life fully as a female 24/7/365 since then, and I feel better than I ever have, but there's still something wrong; my body.
In order to feel 100% complete with my life and to live comfortably as who I was meant to be, I require Sex Reassignment Surgery. This is a surgery that's very expensive and costs from $15,000-$30,000 in the US.
My biggest dream is to get this surgery and feel as a whole for once in my life. There's nothing I've ever needed more. Although my family is very supportive, they don't have the funds to help me in achieving this surgery, so this is my one shot at getting what I've wanted my entire life. This is my one shot at finally being ME.
