My name is Greg Laudani, and I am proudly raising money for the Arredondo Family Foundation. My brother Chris, the guy who shoveled the Boston Marathon finish line, and I are running Boston this April with Adidas. We want to use this opportunity to give back to individuals and families in need. So we have started fundraising for the Arredondo Family Foundation, an incredible cause established by two of the kindest and most compassionate people in the world.
Carlos Arredondo or "the man in the cowboy hat" is the man famously pictured at the Boston Marathon finish line during the 2013 bombings. He helped save the life of Jeff Bauman after Bauman was critically injured in the attacks. Carlos ran in to help as many people as he possibly could, showing his unshakable courage and his tremendous character.
As many have endured unimaginable pain since the bombings, Carlos and his wife have also had to deal with tragic losses within their own family. Their son Alex was killed in 2004 while bravely serving our country in the Iraq War. The Arredondo family was struck with agonizing pain after losing their son. In 2011, Carlos and Mel's son Brian took his own life in the midst of overwhelming grief after Alex's death.
Carlos and Mel turned these tragic events into an opportunity to help others coping with similar hardships. Money donated to the Arredondo Family Foundation will go directly toward helping families experiencing tragedy, in addition to providing further education on the issue of suicide among military, veterans and military families. A portion of the funds will also be used to sponsor a scholarship in the Arredondo brothers' names to help kids through school and stay on the right track.
