Rangeline Community Center

We are working to retore Rangeline Community Center to the former status of two decades ago, The Center was known as the Senior Citizen Community Center.
The Center is located in Anderson, IN. This is a community that is still revovering from the decline of the U.S. Automotive industry. Anderson lost much of its economic base during the 1980s. The area served by the Center has few opportunities for Seniors or residents in general.
In the past, the center was used for many large events, such as, AARP Chapter meetings, Indiana National Guard Ball, United States Marine Corps Birthday Ball, Blue Grass Festival and weddings. It averaged 2.5 weddings per month. Most all events were catered by the Center. The Center held smaller events like BINGO, Dances, and Craft Shows along with serving two meals a week. It also held several fund raisers connected with those events such as dancing, community dinners, (Chicken and Noodles, Ham & Beans, Irish stew, etc.)
However, the main source of revenue was a donation by the UNITED WAY. As an example, in 1993 the United Way Board of Directors had approved a $36,083.78 operating allocating for the center. This, along with the income from fund raisers, donations, building rentals, membership dues, catering and special interests events, this provided an annual income stream of approximately $93,000.00.
Expenses at that time were the normal expenses paid by appropriations: Salary, insurance, communications, marketing, utilities, etc…the Center offered meals to non members referred by Area 6 (now known as Life Stream) case workers.
Today, many of these programs and events are no longer in existence. We no longer receive any funding from United Way.

Rangeline Community Center

resurfacing the floor and so forth has placed a huge burden on us. It would cost an estimated $130.000.00 to bring the center to a point of being cost effective to operate.
One of the many events the Center offers to the community is a monthly “Nursing Home Day.” It is a time when nursing homes through out the county bring their residents to the center to play BINGO, have lunch and socialize with former friends and acquaintances. The Center was also used as a voting poll, Senior Health Fairs, etc…and many other community events.
The original intent of the center that was built by General Motors Employees in 1968, was to create a place for retires to socialize. Now, we have re-opened the center to the community with the same services for everyone. Currently, we are seeking funding to help keep the center open until such time as these renovations can be made then we can resume serving the community.
Any funds that you or your organization can donate to the cause will be greatly appreciated. All donations are tax deductible under 501(3)(C ) federal tax code.
