I am a parent of Detroit Merit Academy, the school of the youngest house fire victim, Quartez Burrell, age 12. My daughter was a classmate of Quartez's. To have dialogue with her about her feelings and to hear her hearts concerned for their peers/student body, his sisters, his parents made me feel a way words cannot describe. She wanted to know what we could do to help! When one of our families suffer such devastation, it affects us all. Not just our D.M.A. family but our "community" grieves as well.
Myself with the support of a few other fitness professionals are hosting a "FitnessFundraiser" Sunday Feb 15th Berts Warehouse, EasternMarket, in their honor. Donating 100% of the proceeds to the Burrell family, our expectaions are to relieve some of the financial pressures that may occur during this trying time.
Understanding many will not be able to attend the actual "FitnessFundraiser" event, this GoFundMe site dedicated to Quartez and Cortez, will allow those who wish to be apart of this giving opportunity, an additional donating avenue, helping the family to offset whatever expenses needed to move forward successfully.
We continue to pray for the parents, siblings, family and student body of both Detroit Merit Academy and Cristo Rey High School.
