                          Please support Amanda Edwards

Amanda Edwards grew up in Brampton, Ontario.  In 2007, she graduated from Notre Dame Catholic Secondary school as a four year honour student and Ontario Scholar.  She was also the recipient of the prestigious Yvonne Flakowicz Memorial Award; given to students who embody both brilliant artistic ability and high distinction in a particular sport - Amanda’s sport was basketball.  Amanda played with the Sultan Prospects; one of the top teams in Ontario.  Amanda’s went on to attend Howard University in Washington D.C. on a full athletic scholarship.  Amanda excelled both academically and on the court.  In 2011, she obtained her undergraduate degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology.  All Amanda’s hard work and perseverance paid off.  She was accepted into her alma mater’s Physician Assistant (PA) program to achieve her graduate degree; it was her hope to one day, become a Doctor.

On Friday, March 13, 2015, Amanda Edwards finished her last exam before Spring Break.  To celebrate, Amanda and her friend Nicole decided to go to their favorite Pizza spot for supper and then catch a movie.  Amanda and Nicole never made it to the movies and dinner.  Amanda was the victim of a tragic accident.  Her parents arrived at the hospital just in time to see her before she was sent for emergency surgery; they were told to prepare to say their goodbyes, in case Amanda experienced any complications.

Amanda’s injuries were extensive.  She had shattered vertebrae, which had to be removed and replaced by fusions to protect and encase her spine.  Her spinal cord was severely compressed and torqued.  Two metal rods and fifteen screws were placed to stabilize and help with the natural curve of her spine.  Amanda also suffered 3 broken ribs, nasal fractures, severe road burns on her hands and feet and paralysis in her legs.

We have been fortunate to work with Amanda’s father, Michael, for the past 10-12 years.  He is a devoted father, who has worked two jobs to support his family and put his daughters through school.  Amanda’s mom also works, but has tried to stay by her daughter’s side at the hospital since her accident.

It is our hope to raise money to assist Amanda with her current and future medical expenses.  All support is greatly appreciated, whether it is a donation http://www.gofundme.com/qtjnxg8  , sharing Amanda’s story, or both.
