The Parkstar Project

It was 1986 and I was in the fourth grade when my family took a leap of faith. My sister had SMA, a form of Muscular Dystrophy, and battled constantly to stay out of the hospital.  She was at the healthiest she would ever be so my parents took the opportunity, equipped an RV with a custom-made box for her wheelchair, and off we went.  32 states, almost 3 months of travel.  Time missed from school was to be made up by journaling everyday, our own chronicles of this adventure.

Fast Forward...
It's 2015, and I am now the proud mother of two amazing daughters myself, one of which will be entering the fourth grade in the fall. In conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the National Park system, the president recently launched an initiative called "Every Kid in a Park", which would grant a free access pass to every National Park and waterway all fourth grade children and their families beginning in September of this year.

Thus the idea was born!  To embark on a mission to visit all 59 National Parks.  Our modern-day assignment?  To video-journal this adventure, and share via podcast.

The intent first and foremost is to inspire children and families to get out of the house! Go somewhere, anywhere, together! Explore and connect with nature.  But ultimately, it is to invite children who do not have the same opportunities, to travel these roads with us.
Because everyone deserves to know their world!

Support us if you believe in Awesome!

Thank You!
