Connor Heffler GoFundMe Effort
Connor Heffler is a 10 year old boy from Natick. His mom, Beth, is a Natick Police officer assigned as a school resource officer. His dad, Steve, is an electrician with the Department of Public Works.
Everyone knows Connor as an energetic and hard working kid with a positive attitude. He loves hockey, as does his twin brother Evin and older brother Ryan. All three play hockey and lacrosse as well.
In March 2015, just before his birthday, Connor woke up for school with no feeling or use of his legs. His parents rushed him into Mass General Hospital immediately. A tumor was discovered on the spine, and he underwent emergency surgery for 6 hours to remove the tumor. The doctors were not able to get the entire tumor due to the location. The family later learned from the results of the biopsy that it was cancer.
Connor still has no use of his legs although he does have some sensation. He has been moved to Spaulding, where he will undergo therapy for his legs and will be transported to Mass General for his chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
Connor went from skating with his hockey teammates one night to not having any feeling in his legs the next morning. He was diagnosed with cancer just as he and his brother were turning 10.
The parents had been staying in Boston at Mass General since the operation. Now that he’s at Spaulding, they are commuting back and forth to Charlestown from Natick. Connor will be undergoing radiation treatment for the next 6 weeks, being transported to and from Spaulding and MGH.
Connor is a strong young man, with a strong family, from a strong community. We have established this fund to assist with the expenses of treatment and employment interruption over the coming months. There will also be multiple fundraising events in Natick which will be announced through social media or the school. Please keep Connor in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.
