The Monrovia Bulldog Brigade will represent Indiana in the 2016 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C. to thank our Veterans. Congressman Todd Rokita from Indiana's 4th District nominated Monrovia for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. The parade returned to D.C. in 2004 to coincide with the dedication of the National World War II Memorial. This year's parade will coincide with many musical events commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor. Monrovia will join select marching bands from the other 49 states as well as veteran units from across the country in honoring the veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, Desert Storm, and the liberation of Grenada, Panama, Iraq and Afghanistan.
This trip will give Monrovia's band students -- some of whom who have never been outside of Indiana -- the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. to experience patriotism on one of our most hallowed days. In addition to participating in the Memorial Day Parade, the students will see the Lincoln, Korean, Martin Luther King, Jr. , Vietnam, and National World War II Memorials. They will also tour Arlington National Cemetery, and visit several museums as they take in our nation's history at her capital.
We teach our young people to honor and respect our nation, the principles it stands for, and the brave men and women who have given their lives defending it, and what better place to reinforce this than in our nation's capital.
We are seeking your help. We are looking to reduce the cost for each of our anticipated 66 members so that none of the students are excluded because of lack of ability pay. The cost per student will be between $649 and $717. Any support you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Monrovia's band has been a nine-time Indiana All-Music Award recipient since 2004, representing excellence in marching, concert and jazz bands, and solo and small ensemble competitions, and an 11-time Indiana Marching Band State Finalist.
