Update - 4/4/15: I have had a number of people ask me if there was a paypal available, so I will provide that for those that don't have a credit card, but want to help.
On March 20th, my 10 year old son was found unresponsive on his bedroom floor, and I had to rush him to the ER. They determined that he was in diabetic ketoacidosis, and was in serious/critical condition. During the initial examination, due to how terribly thin he was, the hospital called DCFS. Within a day or two, they seized our other children from my ex's home while we were at our son's bedside, saying we had starved him and were abusive/neglectful. We explained that our son is nonverbal, and has special needs, that due to this he has severe aversions to foods he doesn't like. The nursing staff at the hospital has witnessed this, and his attending physician has already said she found no medical neglect or abuse. They are feeding him the EXACT foods we were at home, and now that he is on insulin, he is immediately gaining weight. They have determined that the direct cause of his low weight was in fact his Type 1 Diabetes, which we could not have seen coming.
After 11 days in the hospital, our son's life is no longer in danger, but our family remains under attack by DCFS. We were told at 2PM this afternoon, that we are expected in court by 10AM tomorrow. They continue to keep our children away from us, placed with my mother, and the experience has badly traumatized them all. To fight for my children, I have retained a private attorney, but the costs of this are extensive. Her rate is $175.00 an hour, and I have already had to pay $1500 to hire her. Given that they only gave us around 18 hours to prepare, my lawyer is likely to need to ask for a continuance just to gather the medical records that corroborate the facts that we never abused our children.
This legal battle with the system, as well as the cost of supporting the kids at my mother's home, has already drained my bank account to nothing. We desperately need the help and support to bring our family back together, so that we can begin to heal from this horrific experience. No matter how long it takes, I need my babies home safe with me, and I need the resources to wage this battle. Anything that can be given will go directly to the support of the kids and to pay the attorney, as well as the counseling all of my children will need to cope with their trauma. I can not voice in words how much it means to me.
