Citizens to Preserve Conestoga

In 2014 the voices of 1700 citizens of Conestoga Township were silenced when 3 supervisors voted down an ordinance supported by 70% of their constituents.  Conestoga Community Group supports the PAC Citizens to Preserve Conestoga  in its launch of a campaign to introduce the option of a home rule system of government to make sure that never happens again.  Home rule governs 71 municipalities in PA including State College, Pittsburgh and Lebanon.  Home rule allows citizens to submit ballot questions that are voted on by every registered voter.  It is democracy at its purest.  The intention is to leave all daily operation of the township exactly as it is now.  We will suggest no changes in personnel, services, taxes, insurance or funding.   Our efforts have been challenged by a group that includes spouses of our current supervisors.  We have won one hearing regarding individual petition challenges, and have another on Friday, March 27.  On March 27 we will be defending our right to put the question on the ballot of whether or not Conestoga Township wants to seat a government study commission to examine the advisability of home rule.  Drue Miles has challenged our petition to do so, in hopes of keeping the home rule question off the ballot in May.  We have been blessed with amazing legal counsel at very, very reduced rates.  However, we have incurred legal expenses in addition to the expenses for printing and mailing educational literature.  Please show your support by donating to Citizens to Preserve Conestoga, the political organization supported by the Conestoga Community Group.  We need home rule to fix our democracy problem, so we can focus on fixing our pipeline problem.
