QAPIAR, or Queer Asian/Pacific Islander American Retreat, is a retreat for queer and API identified students created and run by UC Davis students. This retreat aims to celebrate our identities and histories, address the struggles faced by queer API students, and inspire and empower attendees.
QAPIAR is a 3-day retreat that traditionally is held in the Tahoe area during Fall Quarter. The retreat consists of workshops, small group meetings, and activities to build community. Though this retreat is coordinated through UC Davis, attendees from other colleges are welcomed. People of all identities are welcome to apply, but priority is given to students who identify as both queer and API college students in Northern California. Typically, around 40 students are accepted to attend.
While attendees do pay a fee to attend the retreat, the income received does not cover the entire cost of the retreat.
We are not certain how much we will receive from UC Davis, and recently, a $1000 grant was denied. If you have even just a few dollars to spare, and want to contribute to helping these students build a stronger queer, API community in UC Davis and surrounding schools, we would greatly appreciate any donation you can make.
Your donation would be contributing to a truly eye-opening experience, as this retreat is many attendees' first experience with social justice issues.
BUDGET:
Lodging: $2545
Food: $300
Publicity (fliers and website): $120
Supplies (folders, paper, markers, etc): $40
Tapistry (an activity): $50
Travel costs: $425
Fee assistance (for those who cannot afford to attend the retreat): $90
TOTAL: $3570
We have received $1100, and we expect to receive $1180 in attendee fees, which means we still need $1290.
If we end up getting more funding from school grants, any donated money will go to next year's QAPIAR.
