UPDATE: On Wednesday, April 3rd, 2019, my niece Andrea Solomon Szynal passed away from a Heroin Overdose in Chicago, Il. Yes, the opioid epidemic hit our family and hit it hard! Statistics state that Opioid deaths claim 1 American life every 13 minutes. But now I am not sure the statistics are correct because the data is from 2016. Maybe the statistics are higher for 2017,2018 and part of 2019. They could be as high as 1 every 10 or 11 minutes. WE have to save our children and grandchildren from this DEADLY EPIDEMIC. Nobody has ever died in our family from a drug overdose, that is,...until now. We were raised in a big irish-catholic family. How could something like this happen in "our' family? Why Lord, Why?
BACKGROUND: Andrea was a single mom who has 2 beautiful daughters, Karaline and Taylor. Karaline is in college studying to be a teacher and Taylor is a junior who plays the Trumpet and is enjoying being in the band and playing her trumpet.
I guess all the stress started to take its toll on Andrea so instead of getting help from a Psychologist, she just started going out with her "Friends" who she thought could help her. Instead they introduced her to drugs and her life would Never be the same.
In July 1985 my sister Ellen 's husband and our mother were both dying at the same time with the same disease, Lymphoma non-hodgkins. They both died less than 3 weeks apart. She raised 3 small kids on her own with Andrea being the oldest, did not take it well at all. For the past 10 years my sister has been raising Karoline and Taylor on her own with a small fixed income.
If there is even the slightest chance you can donate a small amount of money for Andrea's funeral service, we would greatly appreciate it. My sister Ellen is a Great person who is 71 years old and can really use our help in her time of loss and grieving. There are 4 of us siblings who are disabled and we will donate the maxjmum that we are able to. PLEASE Let all of us try to stop our children from dying from this horrible opioid crisis.
