The Bookcast's Internet Access
Donation protected
Hello, friends of The Bookcast!
"Where have you been, Bill?" is a question I hear a lot lately. I have not closed down The Bookcast, and my online absence has not been by choice.
Last December there was a fire in our condominium building in suburban Baltimore, Maryland. Fortunately no one was injured, but smoke damage to the premises was considerable. In January my wife, cat, and I were forced to relocate to a hotel while workers completely gut our unit and replace our walls and ceilings. They tell us we may be able to return in May.
I was unable to bring my home recording studio to the hotel, and thus I cannot record fresh interviews for The Bookcast. I plan to resume when we go home again -- hopefully in May.
We have also incurred a number of unexpected -- and not insignicant -- expenses, not all of which are covered by insurance. One casualty of this predicament was our internet service. Comcast ended our service because we were unable to continue paying for it. (They were unmoved when we pointed out that we haven't even been able to use the service in months.)
Given The Bookcast's obvious reliance on Skype, any sustained interruption of internet access is calamitous. We need the internet to be available to us when we return home -- hopefully in May.
We have therefore set up this GoFundMe account with two aims: to bring our internet service provider (ISP) account current again, and to assure that we'll have enough to cover monthly charges through next fall. That total is approximately $675.
(Our internet access is not bundled with expensive cable television service. We have an internet-only plan, but as a "perk" Comcast does throw in a handful of local over-the-air signals.)
No one knows better than I do how tight money is for most indie authors. I wish I did not have to make this appeal. But whatever amount you may be able to help with is -- trust me -- genuinely appreciated.
Thank you for your support!
