Wheeler Pep Squad to New York
Donation protected
The Wheeler High School men's basketball team won the 2015 Georgia State Championship and were ranked 6th in the country. Subsequently they were invited to play in the Dick's Sports Authority national tournament, April 2 -4 in New York City. Initially, the GHSA stated they could not participate but after a social media outcry, (#letwheelerin) the GHSA reversed their decision and gave them the okay to participate in the tournament.
We are trying to put together a "pep squad" to travel to New York to encourage our team. We would send approximately 40 students consisting of cheerleaders and a pep band. The trip would be a "once in a lifetime" opportunity for these students to be a part of such an event and visit one of America's great cities. There are a number of challenges for planning this trip but the primary challenge is figuring out how to pay for it.
There is really no time for the kids to do any fundraising. There are no funds available to dedicate to this trip because it was completely unexpected. The cost of the trip - which would include a bus for travel to and from New York along with a hotel room for two nights and tickets to 3 ballgames - will cost $20,000.
A wave of donations of any size could help sweep our pep squad right into Brooklyn to support Wheeler and our community. This is a special time at Wheeler High School and we hope you can help our students with this special opportunity.
