Oliver's Heart Surgery

Oliver is currently 1.5 year old Persian mix male cat. 


He came into my life on the 27th of February after I saw an advert on Facebook saying he was "free". Except he wasn't free. Oliver was abused and mistreated to a very high degree and this broke my heart. I immediately took him to the VET and whilst it was clear he had an agressive heart murmur, his fleas, worms, malnourishment, eye infection and ear infection needed to be treated first. 


With continous monitoring it became clear that this heart murmur was definitely not caused by the aforementioned issues. An appointment needed to be made to receieve an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) to get a diagnosis, during the meantime an x-ray was planned to identify anything we could have done leading up to the echo. Unfortunately, Oliver's breathing detiorated rapidly and on the morning of his x-ray he was placed in an oxygen tank. Stable enough, he underwent one x-ray before we rushed him [on the two hour drive] to Sydney's Vetinary Hospital, resident to one of the few small animal heart specialists.


This all took place on Wednesday, the 25th of March. $2,500 dollars later and he's able to come home, with three rare heart diseases, and due to this his stomach will retain liquid and cause his breathing to once again deteriorate. He has a few weeks left to live if I let him stay here deteriorating or I have the option of letting him undergo surgery and give him the possibility of a longer life.


With all surgery, there are risks, with everything there are risks, but Oliver is the only thing I have at the moment and I won't sleep another night unless I have given him every chance he deserves. His funds are empty and so is my wallet.
