A friend in need

A good friend of mine recently went to the Czech Republic to enjoy some father/son time in the snow with his 5 year old boy. They were involved in an accident which resulted in the little boy suffering a serious head injury and he is currently in a coma. The good news is the doctors managed to save his life and his condition is now stable.  His prognosis is not yet fully known although the general view is he faces a long road to recovery.

The doctors in the Czech Republic have been fantastic in saving his life and now the next stage of his journey begins. This involves transferring him back to the UK where his treatment will continue. Unfortunately this is not covered under NHS insurance and his parents are faced with a £10,000 bill.

This could have happened to anyone and makes you realise how precious life really is. As a father to young children myself, I can only imagine what his parents are going through at the moment and the last thing they need to be worrying about is trying to find money to bring their child home. I feel compelled to do what I can to help them out.  

My plan is to raise money by completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge on the 16th May. This will give me a few weeks to try and get into some kind of shape and also to spread the word and get people to pledge money towards the cost of bringing my friend’s little boy home.
