Kiera Powell Medical Assistance

Donation protected

Aaron and Melissa's sweet little girl, Kiera Powell, has a large brain tumor.

Kiera has been through a lot in the past few months. She had eye surgery on both of her eyes in January due to estrophia. Kiera also began physical therapy about a month ago because she is behind in her gross motor skills. They had no idea that these things could be linked to a bigger problem.

For the past two weeks Kiera has been very sick. They thought she had the flu, but it wasn't going away. When Kiera continued to be sick for several days Melissa took her to see their pediatrician, Dr. Carrie with Siena pediatrics. Dr. Carrie said that it was probably the flu. BUT if Kiera didn't get better, or if she started throwing up yellow bile we would need to take her to the emergency room. She prescribed Kiera a medication for nausea and said that it should help.

This medine helped relieve some of her symptoms, but didn't stop Kiera from vomiting.

Monday morning she continued throwing up dark yellow bile, so Melissa called Dr. Carrie and Dr. Carrie told Melissa to take her to the Emergency Room ASAP! Aaron rushed home to be with his wife and child, and thought maybe they could take her to an instant care, but Dr. Carrie told us they would just send us to the ER or call an ambulance. So Dr. Carrie went ahead and ordered a CT scan and updated the doctors on what had been going on.

Kiera was brave and very good. When the doctor returned she told them that Kiera had a tumor in her brain. Their hearts broke. Both started sobbing, the doctor showed us the images and I saw the golf ball sized tumor as soon as she showed them to us. We were shocked and devastated to hear the news. Our bishop and two of my co-workers came to visit us in the ER and gave each of us a blessing.

Kiera had an MRI scan which showed the brain tumor, but she moved during the MRI and needs another MRI to give a better image of what her condition is.

So where does this family go from here?

There is no clear diagnosis of her condition the type of tumor, recovery time, etc. The only way to know is through testing on the tumor once it is removed.

This will take time. Following surgery there is likely to be radiation and Chemotherapy to help her recover.

What's next for Kiera?

Kiera's second MRI is scheduled for the afternoon. When better images are available the doctors will be able to tell us their plans.

Kiera is also scheduled for surgery this Thursday March 26th at 1:30 pm.

How can we help?

Aaron and Melissa want to share their gratitue for   all of you who are praying and fasting for us. That accompanied by their faith are literally the only things sustaining them right now.  Aaron said "We can feel your faith and we love you for adding your faith to ours. We have cried ourselves dry and now we feel comforted and know that all will be well. We have received a witness that this is in Heavenly Father's hands."

Aaron and Melissa recently relocated their small family to the Las Vegas, NV area for Aaron's work.  He has been extremely successful in providing for his little family, however it is evident with the procedures that are being performed that this event is going to provide them with a great deal of medical expense.  As friends and family of this sweet little family we are hoping to provide as much assistance as possible, so through any donation that you can afford to make we will be supporting them through this trial.

Please add to our faith by praying for Kiera and keeping them in your thoughts. To any who would like to join, their ward will be doing a fast for Kiera over the next few days beginning today March 25, 2015 in preparation for her surgery.

We are truly grateful for all of your love, prayers, and support.
