Bring Olivia Home

Last fall Olivia entered the 7th grade. During the term she developed a severe eating disorder (ED) that landed her in the hospital in early February. Since then she has been in an inpatient facility to restore her medical stability so that she can return home to her family of 4 siblings, her mom and dad, her guinea pig Clark, the two dogs, and her own bed. She has battled bravely despite the strength of the ED voice that has been in total control of her brain . After nearly 7 weeks, she has of course become terribly homesick and misses her family and friends. Her friends don't get to visit her, and her siblings are only able to visit for 15 minutes per week.
She has turned a major corner in her treatment and the family (collectively known as the Harris 7) has an opportunity to participate in a program at the University of California San Diego to educate and train us in a method known as Family Based Treatment that allows her to regain control of her life with the support and participation of the entire family. Participation in the program requires us to travel from Chicago to San Diego and provide our own lodging and ground transportation. In addition the program fee is $5,000. Our insurance does not cover any of these expenses.
The Harris 7 has always risen to the task and gained strength in the face of adversity. We will overcome this terrible mental disorder together for the sake of our wonderful Olivia. Through your generosity we will be able to bring Olivia home and provide the proper treatment conditions to restore her physical and mental health and bring back to a future of hope and productivity.
In keeping with our family values, any funds donated that are not used toward this trip will be donated to ProjectHeal so that the money will continue to help others that find themselves in need of treatment options but may not have the financial ability to acquire them.
