Powell Valley Elementary MakerSpace

Powell Valley Elementary School in Gresham, Oregon is trying to secure funding to create a 21st century STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) learning space at our school.  Hi, I'm Michael Stephens (4th grade teacher), and along with Doug Robertson (5th grade teacher), we are spearheading an effort to create a MakerSpace full of different types of technologies. We have immeasurable support from our administration, our parent teacher organization, and our teaching staff, but we need your support as well!

We know that this technology engages and inspires our students to go beyond their normal effort levels. We were able to spend a short time with some Spheros recently and the students created and coded paths through mazes in two weeks, having never touched one before. Imagine what they could create in a year. In a K to 5 cycle.

Powell Valley Elementary is home to excited students and teachers aspiring to create great things and learn about the world around us. But our full vision for a 21st century learning facility is understandably not possible on the current school budget. We are turning to GoFundMe in the hopes that donors around the world will be inspired to help us make an empty classroom into a 21st Century MakerSpace.

The budget includes technology that will allow over 450 K-5 grade students each year to take part in computer programming, robotic engineering, architectural design, textile design, drone flight operation and programming, and much more.

The funding will cover the following purchases:

- 10 Chromebooks
- 20 Android Tablets
- 24 Sphero SPRK Robots
- 1 Dash and Dot Robot pair
- 3 Sets of Circuit Scribe Maker Kits
- 1 BeeBots Robot Set
- 1 LittleBits Workshop Kit
- 1 Polar 3D Printer
- 2 Sets of Lego Architecture Bricks
- 6 Parrot Drones & 1 3DR Drone
- 1 Personal Computer for Video Editing
- School Gardening Supplies
- Room to grow with student interests

Funding this project will mean so much for our students. We are setting our space up with not just this year in mind, but so future classes of students will be able to find their passion for learning. These learning opportunities, given at the elementary age, are sure to inspire each student that enters our new MakerSpace. We think this hands-on approach to learning will empower students to find their own calling and encourage each of them to take their learning to the next level.

Your funds are going to change the face of our school and the futures of our students.Thank you so much for considering this project!
