There are no words more painful to hear than “I gave up on God,”but often in the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered community we hear exactly that. The version of God that has been presented to many people is a God that cannot tolerate any sexual or gender identification aside from cisgendered straight. The unfortunate truth is that many people are being driven away from a relationship with God, when God wants them to come closer.
We want to change that. We want to show everyone that God yearns to know them. We want to be role models showing that God loves everyone and that you can have a relationship with God regardless of your sexuality or gender identification. We want to teach those outside the LGBT community that God loves everyone and wants to build inclusive communities that put love first. We want to share our journey, our trials, and our celebrations.
Our desire is to start a weekly 30 minute podcast that presents the God we have come to know. This podcast will feature news commentary, guest interviews, insights, analysis of scriptures, listener feedback and more. The focus of the podcast will be about navigating sexuality and gender identity in the context of religion and the world around us. But we need your help to make this desire a reality. A podcast requires quality-recording equipment, we need a mixer, microphones, headphones, stands, cables, licensed sound effects, hosting fees and more. We have extensively researched our equipment options, reading blogs from those who have successful podcasts, speaking to individuals in the local recording industry, and pouring over configurations and technical data. The equipment we have chosen will allow us to record podcasts and interview both in a home studio, and on the go at events and other locations.
Times are changing, the LGBT community is gaining acceptance across the country. Inclusion is starting to become the norm, even in many religious circles. There is still work to be done, there are still individuals that need to be rescued from hatred and depression, we must make our voices heard, we must change our religious communities, we must have Proud Religion.
