Help Pregnant Moms be Safer Driving

Donation protected
ATTENTION Pregnant Women AND the fathers and grandparents of unborn babies:

Your vehicle’s seat belt system was never designed or tested to provide optimum protection for the expecting mother. In fact, even when worn “correctly” (which we do advocate) there are still hazards that are not being talked about.

More than 3,000 women every year never get to meet their baby because he or she was fatally injured, in her mother’s womb, in a car accident, and delivered as a miscarriage.

WE ARE NOT OK WITH THAT and you shouldn’t be either!

Losing a pregnancy is an awful, sad and distressing event. I know; I went through 3 miscarriages before finally having my first child. Thankfully I wasn't in any car crashes during that time, so no, my losses were not because of an accident but I still wondered if it was something I did or didn't do that caused those miscarriages. Was there something I COULD have done that would have saved their little lives. I will never know and I would never wish that anguish on any other expecting mom. This is why I am SO passionate about this topic. (Amie Durocher)

The Problem:

• Only 27% of pregnant women report even talking to their health care provider about “correct seat belt use”. (which is step #1)

• Many expectant moms find the seat belt very uncomfortable to wear and some even choose to not buckle up at all (it happens more than you may think).

• Even when pregnant women buckle up “correctly” there are still risks, some of which, ironically, come from the seat belt itself.

The Solution:

It is critical that we make it as easy as possible for health care providers to provide the most current and relevant information on “Safe Driving While Pregnant”.

Hank Weiss, a well known researcher on the topic of pregnancy and car crashes, stated, “It’s more effective if it comes from a health care provider,” he added. “It should involve clinicians and direct counseling. It should be on the list of things that women are told to think about.”

SO…

#1 We are making it easy for Health Care Providers to share complete and accurate information with clients.
• The risks involved in driving while pregnant and the magnitude of the issue.
• We will help them share why it is important to AT LEAST buckle up and HOW TO do so “correctly”. (It is after all the law and 3x safer than driving without one)
• Several tips expectant moms can follow to increase their and their unborn baby's safety.

#2 We are introducing the Latest innovative Solution that is both Simple and Effective in mitigation those risks.

With more information about all the risks and all her options, the pregnant mother can make better choices for herself and her baby.

We have the Information, the Statistics and the SOLUTION! We are already designing the Health Care Providers' Safe Driving While Pregnant kit but our challenge is the cost of producing and shipping the Health Care Providers' kit.

You see, in the USA there are at least 57,000 OBs and midwives we need to reach with this life saving information.

It's a big task and your pledge will help ensure that every expectant mom has the information she needs to make the best and safest choices for herself and her unborn baby.

What is this Latest Innovative Solution?

There is an ingenious simple, yet effective, product from Australia that protects the unborn baby and her mom from having the seat belt cause injury. It works by redirecting the lap portion of the seat belt away from the abdomen and to the legs. It is basically making the lap part of the seat belt a leg harness (much like a race car driver or child's car seat).

This makes wearing a seat belt more comfortable (therefore more likely) AND in the unfortunate event of a crash— safer.

You can read more about the CRASH TESTED Tummy Shield™ and how it can help expecting moms be more comfortable and safer when driving /riding in the car here .

How we will use the funds

There are about 57,000 caregivers in the U.S. to reach out to with our video packets. The more money pledged, the more caregivers we can reach.

Our goal for this campaign is $9,997.00, and this will allow us to create the video and start reaching about 1,000 of those caregivers to help them inform their clients. It would take $712,500 of pledges to reach all 57,000 caregivers.
