Make The Precious Child Act Reality

The Precious Child Act is a bill to protect the wellbeing and safety of New York State's children. I was inspired to develop The Precious Child Act and place it into action when my relatives were sexually abused as children. They suffered for the rest of their lives from unfortunate circumstances. One even committed suicide beacuse the pain was too much to handle. It broke my heart! We need to bring awareness about sexual abuse to children and change the law. I started contacting Senators and visited  Assemblymen to address the urgency of child sexual abuse and start the process of making a bill. Legal action needs to occur. This is where the Precious Child Act will step in to defend the wellbeing of our children and mandate instruction on important matters.

I am grateful that Senator Boyle is writing The Precious Child Act, Bill S5323. This section mandates automatic DNA testing for anyone convicted of certain felony charges. As of February 2016, this bill is sitting in committee.

I also began advocating other pending bills pertaining to child sexual abuse: Senator Nozzolio’s bill that raises the penalty for sexual abuse in the second degree from a class A misdemeanor to a class E felony, previously Senator Sampson’s bill (S.4042 in 2015); Senator Nozzolio’s other bill (A.2476 Englebright), establishing three new offenses of Sexual Assault Against a Child by a Person in a Position of trust for the subjection of a child to have sexual contact by those people; Senator Boyle’s bill (A.6961 Miller) that would require each public/charter school to post a child abuse hotline number in a visible location that is readily accessible for students; Erin Merryn’s Law, (A.90 Dinowitz/S.1947 Klein), requiring schools to add age-appropriate education regarding sexual exploitation and abuse; Senator Serino’s bill (S.3696A) that would expand the single Public Lewdness provision to rename the provision Public Lewdness in the Fourth Degree.

The Precious Child Act is crucial to making New York State a safer place for children. This act is the key to preempting future issues. I am also looking for 2,000 people to rally with me in Albany on February 24, 2016. By joining forces with the Precious Child Act, we will bring knowledge about sexual abuse to children.

Budget breakdown for The Precious Child Act’s campaign:

$5,000 – Stamps and postage costs

$4,000 -- Labor company hired to spread the word, write letters, and hand out flyers.

$5,000 -- Visits to Albany to meet with Senators

$6,000 – Other transportation expenses

Please join forces with The Precious Child Act to empower children and bring awareness to sexual abuse.
