We are Team 28 PolyGnomes from Green Meadow Waldorf School in Chestnut Ridge, NY. At the beginning of the year, our team set a goal for ourselves that at the time seemed farfetched and unattainable; to reach Super Regionals and compete against the best robots along the East Coast, from Maine to Virginia. We have had a hugely successful season, and have competed in six different tournaments, either winning the tournament or coming in as a finalist out of over 30 teams at each tournament. This is a huge achievement for us, as we compete against large public schools and science and technical schools.
On March 1st, we competed at NYU Poly and outperformed many teams to advance to the FTC East Super Regional Championship in Scranton, PA on March 19-21st. At the Super Regional, we were the finalist captain of our division, and second highest ranked after nine qualifying matches in which we won 8. (Above is a video of one of our matches at Super Regionals.)
We are now farther than we ever imagined we'd be: headed to the World Chamionships in St. Louis on April 21! This is a dream come true for us and we need to raise money to cover the expenses of this additional and totally unexpected trip (lodging for the tournament, airfare, meal expenses, registration fees, and a van to transport the team and gear in St. Louis), as well as make new improvements for our robot before the tournament.
Hundreds of hours have been spent on the robot, program, and competitions, as well as nearly $6,000. As we do not have sponsorships, we need to find a way to finish our season without cutting corners due to expenses.
