The Genesee County Amateur Radio Public Service Corp serves the community in times of catastrophe, severe weather, missing persons and even public service events.
GC-ARPSC is comprised of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency System (RACES) Skywarn and the National Traffic System (NTS).
A vast infrastructure of antennas, repeaters, controllers, receivers and feed line is critical to keeping our volunteers, and civil agencies in communication with one another. Our current infrastructure is severely outdated.
You may think, why do we need a GoFundMe account? Well, stuff's expensive, and money doesn't grow on trees. We would love to be able to bring everything up to current technology, but that's gonna cost a lot of money that isn't there.
Current technology? Explain...
Well, we would love to upgrade the repeaters to Motorola MSR 3000s. It's a 100 watt repeater that does FM, analog, narrow/wide band and DMR. The cost new is about $5,500. We could use 3 of them. One for the 26, the 100 and the 440 repeaters.
We need 9 UHF Motorola CDM1250s and 5 VHF Motorola CDM1250s for the remote bases. Those run anywhere from $450-500 a piece.
We need a new 220/440 antenna for the 100 repeater. Approx cost is around $250.
We need a new 220/440 antenna for the remote receivers and the 220 repeater at McLaren (again around $250).
All this would help bring us up to current technology for our environment. We would probably need some coax replaced but we're not sure how much or what kind needs to be replaced.
We would love to move forward with all these projects but we can only do what we can afford. If you use any of the repeaters and would be able to help out with fulfilling our goal of updating the hardware, please support the repeater projects. Any little bit can help!
