Please help me avoid deportation!

Donation protected
Imagine fleeing a country where you would fear for your life on a daily basis, to start a new life and find safety and happiness, only to face deportation and lose it all.

My name is Samer and I’m a gay Egyptian asylum seeker in Canada.

My life is at risk and the clock is ticking. On June 22nd, 2017 my passport and work permit are going to expire, and I will lose legal status in Canada.

The Egyptian government forces all adult men into fulfilling a mandatory military conscription that can last up to 3 years. My passport will not be renewed until I return to Egypt and fulfill this conscription service.

Egypt is an extremely homophobic country. Documented evidence and stories from sufferers tell us about the cruel and sickening acts taking place TODAY against the LGBT community in that country.

Being forced back home would mean I’d be subjected to “anal virginity exams” used to “filter out” homosexual men and persecute them by corrupt officials. This is a standard practice in the military recruitment process.

There is no state protection for gay men in Egypt. Prison sentences are issued for several years, torture takes place, and harassment is endured by those suffering the crackdown on the LGBT community.

I am fighting for asylum status in Canada. I am scared of what might happen if I return to Egypt.

My only dream is to be able to stay in Canada, live with my amazing boyfriend, and further pursue my career.

I need your help to pay for legal fees to fight for my life in front of the Refugee Board.

Anything you choose to donate to my cause will go towards covering the legal costs of my refugee claim and will help me fight for my life.

Anything helps.

If somehow I don’t end up using the money for legal costs, or if it exceeds the goal, I will be donating the amount to the Rainbow Resource Centre, a non-profit who are working tirelessly to provide free counseling to the LGBT community and LGBT refugees. Their counseling has literally saved my life.

If you can’t donate, then please share!

If I’m forced to go home, my life would be over.
