Karen's MS Turneround
Donation protected
Having had MS since1996 I was devastated when my condition developed into Secondary Progressive MS in 2014. The severity of my symptoms meant I was no longer able to work and my future was looking very bleak.
By chance I met someone whose friend had experienced similar chronic symptoms of MS. However, they had undergone a Hematopiotic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) which has halted the progression of the disease. Researching this treatment left me in no doubt that I too would benefit from this, it having a 70 - 90% success rate. At this time the treatment is not available in the UK for people with Secondary Progressive MS. Having contacted the Pirogov's National Medical Surgical Centre, Moscow I've been accepted on their waiting list for a transplant.
HSCT involves removing a patient's stem cells, the patient undergoing a course of chemotherapy to destroy their immune system before transplanting the stem cells back into the patient to reboot the immune system. Recovery can be a slow process as the patient is vulnerable due to their compromised immunity. However, the results make this long journey worthwhile. I believe now there is hope for my future.
I'm needing to raise money to fund my treatment and recovery and hope that you may be able to help me reach my goal. I really appreciate you taking time to read my story and hope you can help me by making a donation or sharing this page with friends. Healing thoughts and vibrations are most welcome too.
If my situation changes and I'm able to get HSCT on the NHS or I raise more funds than I require excess funds will go towards someone else seeking this treatment.
