Save us from Falling Trees

On Saturday August 22nd the landscape was forever changed at the Barberville Pioneer Settlement .

A very large water oak tree fell and destroyed our tractor/storage barn. 


We were very lucky in many ways...


No one was hurt and our John Deere escaped with a small dent in the hood and a crimp in the stack.

We were also fortunate that our neighbors have a very generous heart.

Frank and Van Underhill of Underhill Ferneries  and the Magnolia Company  donated the equipment,  time and labor to get the clean-up done as quickly as possible. 



With two large tractors and a crew of about 6 men the building was strategically emptied of valuables, demolished and the tree removed in a matter of less than two days.



We have started this campaign because we look at this as a warning of what could happen to our historical buildings if we do not have other trees removed. 

As much as we love our trees for the shade and ambiance they provide, the time has come for safe removal of the ones that threaten our Astor Bridge Tender's House, the Pierson Train Depot and the Blacksmith Shop. 

We have over 5,000 Facebook  friends and we are hopeful that through your support we can raise the money we need quickly in order to prevent another destroyed building or worse.

Also if you know the Underhill family please tell them how very grateful we are for their generosity. If not for them we would still be cleaning up a very overwhelming mess!
