Help Me Continue My Mum's Pie Legacy

Donation protected
Greetings everyone! My name is Pam and I have a small start up pie business currently working out of our certified residential kitchen in Massachusetts. We have been selling our pies directly to our customers since October of 2011. These pies are made with seasonal fresh fruit and ingredients using Mum's original recipes from the 1940's. They are all created by hand and from scratch as they were back then. By incorporating all organic ingredients as we follow the original recipes, we have begun to fill the untapped niche of fresh, local and 100% organic fruit pies in our surrounding communities. Many folks living in these communities purchase and consume fresh organic produce and eat organic meals exclusively. Having a 100% organic dessert pie available to them seems to be the desired, yummy, and organic way to complete those meals! I have received some wonderful and encouraging feedback from my small customer base since we began.
I was raised on our family farm in Concord, MA. There my dad Joe, taught me the value of growing and eating fresh produce, developing lasting relationships with his customers and fellow vegetable growers and being a steward of the land.

As a farmer's wife in those times, My mum Aleksandra, would be making meals in our farmhouse kitchen that always included seasonal fresh vegetables from our farm. Her pies were made on weekends, special occasions and holidays, they were happily anticipated by all. Each pie was filled with fresh local fruits of the season.

These pies always smelled like love to me baking in the oven. I wanted to learn Mum's art of pie baking to make her proud and continue the family tradition. She was happy to teach her methods and recipes to me all those years ago as my skills developed. Over the past three years with my mum no longer with us, a steady dream developed in me to somehow begin a small business making and selling her wonderful pies and continuing her legacy. In taking my parent's lessons to heart from my childhood, we are steadily building lasting working relationships with our local farmers by offering wonderful traditional fresh fruit pies completely organic with our farmers fruit along with our ingredients and experience. I know Mum would approve!

Pies From Kitchens Past is very pleased to be working with two organic farms locally this season! We will be using their fresh organic fruits in our pies. The next step is to be able to sell our pies in their farm stand and CSA.
In order to make that next step a reality, we are applying for the Massachusetts Food Protection License. It will enable us to continue to bake the pies in our residential kitchen and deliver them to our organic farmers to be sold in their establishments. Using our residential kitchen for baking will keep our costs down considerably as we try to grow the business. It is important to us to keep growing in a steady and sensible way.
Additional funding is needed for my ongoing kitchen certification,ServSafe Food Management certification, liability insurance, local advertising and to increase supply inventory.

Thank you all for taking the time to read these words, your interest in Pies From Kitchens Past and our story. Myself, my husband Rich and family will be very grateful for any and all donations in support of Mum's pie legacy! Time to go and warm up my pie oven!

Sincerely, Pam Palumbo Templeton
