Abby is our 4 year old Doberman Pinscher. As many know, a pet is more than just a dog or a cat, they are family. Abby is our daughter. She recently underwent a spay surgery and has developed some clotting complications from that. Tests are being sent out to determine why this is happening. Her blood volume is very low after bleeding internally from the body wall. She is having trouble replacing needed platelets on her own and was given a plasma transfusion on Wednesday. She has also been given DDAVP to help make the platelets she does have sticky and to help with clotting. Her blood volume increased slightly after the plasma transfusion but dropped back below what it was this morning. Her veternarian is also concerned that she may be devolpoing Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) which is a very serious condition that affects the normal clotting of blood. This would be secondary to the original clotting problem. In order to give her a chance to come back home with us we have to try more treatments. We refuse to give up on her. Our options are another plasma transfusion and tomorrow there will be a donor dog available for a whole blood transfusion. We have spent $250 so far and currently owe around $700-$800. Additional plasma is $250 per each transfusion and the whole blood transfusion is another $300. As well as other related veterinary expenses. We are unsure as to how many transfusions it may take to help her pull through this. We need help financially and if anyone is able to contribute we would be ever so grateful. If not a prayer for Abby is absolutely welcome as a subtitute. Thank you, Abby's Mom Susan Alpena, MI
