Pets4OurVets

Inspired by the story of Alley, a 10 year old shepherd who entered our shelter after becoming homeless following the passing of her owner, a Vietnam veteran, we are launching Pets4OurVets.  (You can read Alley's full story below)

Pets4Our Vets is a campaign to raise funds to support our area’s homeless pets and our local veterans. We’ve partnered with Housing4OurVets, a 24 room transitional shelter that houses homeless veterans.  Veterans can stay for up to 24 months before transitioning to permanent housing, and since opening their program in 2011, they have assisted more than 300 veterans in regaining their independence. 

Now through Veteran's Day (Nov. 11th), when donating to our Pets4OurVets fund, 50% of your donation will go to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin to support pets like Alley who are so desperately seeking their forever homes. The other 50% of your donation will go to Housing4OurVets to support their efforts to provide shelter to veterans and provide assistance in regaining their independence.

Alley's Story:
Alley’s owner was a Vietnam veteran who got Alley, who is now 10 years old, when she was just a pup. For the last 10 months, Alley’s owner was in and out of the hospital, and after nearly a decade together, Alley’s beloved owner passed away. Unfortunately, he left no provisions for Alley’s care.  He had no family to claim her.  Alley spent an entire month living in the empty house… alone and with no electricity. A caretaker friend had been stopping by a few times a day to feed and walk Alley, but could sadly not take Alley into her own home.  Thankfully, Alley’s caretaker reached out to a friend, who then reach out to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin for assistance in placing Alley in a new home and Alley has spent the past few weeks with one of our amazing foster families. Let’s give Alley’s story the happy ending it deserves-- finding her ultimate forever home!
