Service trip to Honduras

Hello! The Periclean Scholars Class of 2016 is focusing on Honduran poverty for a long-term service project. Periclean Scholars is a national program that challenges students to become deeply involved in civic engagement and social responsibility. As Periclean scholars, we are trying to establish connections and obtain on-ground intel by traveling to Honduras this February. Below are links to Elon's Project Pericles chapter. We have been challenged with the task of creating global change in Honduras by the time we graduate in 2016. Currently, we are working to raise money for a trip with the organization Hope for Honduran Children. To keep costs low, only two of us are going on this trip, Meredith Berk and Christian Gilbert. Once funding is more accessible and we have a better idea of what our project will look like, more scholars will follow. Below is an explanation of why this trip is a needed, crucial component to our class's success. We greatly appreciate any size donation.


Why send students to Honduras now?
§ Form face-to-face relations with our partners
§ Understand the needs of the communities better
§ Bring immediate relief through medical and agricultural supplies
§ Conduct a survey, gather information for use in developing our project

Where are we going?
Through Hope for Honduran Children (H4HC), two Periclean Scholars will travel to several villages in rural Honduras close to Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. We will identify the needs of the communities that act as orphanages and schools for impoverished underage boys. We will talk with the villages, students, and the organizers of H4HC to better understand what's happening on the ground.
