Pendulum Space Stage Build-out!

Theatre Momentum is a 7-year old improv theatre company in Chicago. We have had a home at the Cornelia Arts Building for the past 5 years, and we just moved to our new studio, Pendulum Space. We've built out much of the space over the past several weeks, and we've made tremendous progress, but we need your help to get that last mile!

A little about Pendulum Space...
Pendulum Space is even better than our former studios in the Cornelia Arts Building. The new studio houses a wider stage than our current space, a 40 seat performance space, two rehearsal studios, wifi (coming soon!), and a large, clean lobby. And what's more, a new home for TM to continue the legacy of our past 8 years of work.


Theatre Momentum's goal is to create theatre that happens to be improvised. We have been performing since 2007, and this February will mark our 8 year anniversary.

In the past (almost) 8 years, TM has done quite a bit. We have:

• Produced 27 original improv shows
• Run multiple workshop series, for both beginners and advanced improv students
• Hosted a free improv jam, The Kinetic Jam
• Run "The 15 Hour Project", TM's answer to the "24 Hour Play" projects many theaters produce.
• Run a long-standing weekly workshop, "Work(shop)-in-Progress", which was a lab that generated many of our shows.
• Hosted the free learning event, Learnapalooza Lakeview for two years.
• Produced and hosted the "Knowledge Knot" peer-to-peer learning class series.
• Hosted multiple free and cheap productions.

And most importantly to the Chicago Theatre Community, we have continuously provided inexpensive rehearsal and workshop space for thousands of improv students, teachers, and performers.


Artistic Director/Founder's note:
When I moved to Chicago in 2002, most rehearsal studios were $10/hr, $12 at most. I saw these prices skyrocket over the years, and have made it my goal with our current studio and the new studio to keep our prices reasonable, because I know that expenses for rehearsals and performance space can easily add up. I'm proud that we've managed to provide a reasonably priced venue for actors and improvisors to perform and rehearse, and we plan to continue this with Pendulum Space.

We have lots of fundraising efforts going on, and the space is up and running now, but not yet fully complete. If Theatre Momentum has ever been a place you've rehearsed, performed, taken a class, or seen a show, share a little love and lend us a hand to build the best space possible.
