Support Bike Power in Hawai'i
What is Bike Power?
These specially made bicycles actually produce electricity, around 100-200 watt/hrs for a normal rider. We can then store the energy in a portable generator and provide clean energy anytime, anywhere.
These bikes just broke the Guiness World Record for wattage produced by bike creating 500 watts in 4 hours. That's equivalent to a photo voltaic solar panel!
The Future of Public Events
(Mike Love and Sam Ites @ Sustainable Coastlines Earth Day Beach Clean Up. Kailua, Oahu)
These bikes unbind us from the limitations of fossil fuel, by providing clean energy in almost any location.
We see a future where film fests, music concerts, speeches, and farmer's markets are powered by the people riding these bikes.
Why do we need your help?
Pedal Power Hawai'i is a tiny grassroots organization started by 3 Big Island boys.
The $5,000 would allow us to bring 5 to 6 more pedal power bikes to Hawai'i.
The beauty of these events is that the audience gets to engage symbiotically with the event rather than being a passive listener. Imagine pedaling a bike at a Mike Love concert, and he's looking down at you, saying, "mahalo for powering me tonight."
We hope to one day power the Waikiki Shell by bicycle and make it a destination for conscious musicians across the globe. With 10-12 bikes we could.
These bikes promote a healthy lifestyle. Biking is incredibly good for your health, and our islands also face a health crisis. We need to get more people exercising, and why not produce energy for yourself while burning calories. It's a win-win situation.
