Para-golfer to US Open
Donation protected
My Name is Aidan Barry, I am 20 years old and I am an Australian Para-golfer (Golfer with a Disability). I have been playing golf for 11 years. I have won the Gary Hart Memorial Trophy in the SA Disabled Golf Tournament once, in 2015. I am the Captain of the No Handicap Golf Club.
I’m studying at University of Adelaide this year and I’m studying teaching.
I have no upper limbs and I have been pacemaker dependent since age 3. I have multiple cardiac conditions and have had 4 open heart surgeries and 4 closed heart surgeries with a 5th pending. I also have a Corneal dystrophy vision impairment. I have a port for regular venasections due to haemochromatosis.
Outside of Golf I have won many other awards including; South Australia Courage award, Pride of Australia Awards 2014. Young Citizen of the Year, City of Marion Council, 2015. Novita Children’s Services Presidents Award 2014.
I have been given the oppurtunity to play in the 2018 US Disabled Open. Getting the opportunity to play America would mean a lot to me personally and as a player. Personally it would be the first time I would be able to break the barriers of classification in golf play with the rest of the field, which is important in itself as it sets the standard of which should be followed.
As a player it would allow me to test my abilities against other Para-golfers on a Major stage, that being the US Open. Getting to play in a proper competition for the first time has been a goal of mine and with your help I will be able to achieve that.
The Tournament is been held in Michigan, I will update my supporters with course details when they are confirmed.
The cost to get to play in America is in excess of $35,000. That is why your support is crucial as raising the money will take a lot of time and effort.
