Just a quick check in to...
Just a quick check in to say that the monsoon continues in Nepal. Kathmandu weather is BIG rain for through at least Tuesday August 14th, which is how far the forecast can show me. I hope to hear soon that the monsoon is coming to an end and that things are drying out so Mane can begin the project in earnest.

It is Monsoon time in Nepal....
It is Monsoon time in Nepal. Mani and Dawa have met with the power authority and had a village meeting. Everything is lined up and as soon as the monsoon rains subside the project will get under way. That will be a few weeks from now and the project will take a few weeks from start to complete. Mani is the project manager! All funds are in, just want to keep you all updated!

Today, Mani and Dawa will have...
Today, Mani and Dawa will have departed Lukla for Mani's village. It will take three days to get there. I am hoping to hear soon but it is Nepal time now so information will be slow to get. I know this message comes with a donate key, but we have what we need right now and I just want to keep you all updated. So, no funds being solicited at this point. Thanks all for caring and thanks for all the support, both monetarily and otherwise. It means a lot.

Mani Sherpa was my Sherpa almost all of the way from Lukla to Mount Everest Base Camp. He is a member of the Untouchable Caste. As a result, when power was brought to his village, he and 5 other families were not allowed to be given power. They are shunned and others cannot interact with them. Social norms are changing and now they can get power, but the cost to run it in to the six houses is $2,500.00. That is a lot for poor villagers like Mani and the other untouchables who still have difficulty finding gainful employment. Even if they do, that amount is nearly impossible for them. Mani really was a life saver to me on my trek. Please help me help him. Read more: HERE
