It is Monsoon time in Nepal. Mani and Dawa have met with the power authority and had a village meeting. Everything is lined up and as soon as the monsoon rains subside the project will get under way. That will be a few weeks from now and the project will take a few weeks from start to complete. Mani is the project manager! All funds are in, just want to keep you all updated!
Today, Mani and Dawa will have departed Lukla for Mani's village. It will take three days to get there. I am hoping to hear soon but it is Nepal time now so information will be slow to get. I know this message comes with a donate key, but we have what we need right now and I just want to keep you all updated. So, no funds being solicited at this point. Thanks all for caring and thanks for all the support, both monetarily and otherwise. It means a lot.
Big batch of the money sent over via bank wire! We are off and running. I am holding off on sending the remainder that came in after the first check was ordered so I know exactly where everything stands. We have all the money raised and a bit more. I will be adding some additional for some English and Computer classes for Mane and Dawa respectively. I just want to send over one more chunck of money because the fees for wiring are the same no matter the amount. Thank you all OHHHHH so much! I really do appreciate all you have done!
Thanks, Melanie! How kind of you! And Kristen what a nice thing. It is amazing! All of you amaze me! We are now over goal! $2,615.00! Anything extra will go for education so that Mane will better his job prospects by knowing English.!
Sara and Charlie started us off with the first donation and they have come back again. Thanks to you both and to all the donors. This would have been a pipe dream for me and for Mane without each and every one of you!
SO CLOSE!!! We are right to the end now! Only $210.00 to go! Thanks for the donations of the last few days! Greg donated on behalf of my Auntie Eil, Jackie and Yi Lin added to the pot! Thanks so much! Mane is truly excited! Only 8.4% to go!
The money arrived from the donation site and is being deposited today along with all the cash and checks. It looks like I will be wiring in he next few days as soon as the checks clear.
I am in daily communication with Kate at Dawa's now. As we talk about what is to come I await the check being delivered which is made up of all the donations you fine people sent in. Once it arrives here, I will place it and the cash donations in the bank and wire it to Dawa in Nepal. Then Dawa and Mane will go to the National Electric Authority and get things going. As an aside, I am going to be helping Mani with his English classes. They are only 20 dollars a month and can result in better work! So, its real. The trek was real and now this is a real outcome of the trek!
Down to the last $300.00. I will keep hoping and working on the actual project itself. It is my hope to blog as much as possible. Working hard to get the project all set up and then get the money there. Want to get pix as well. I intend to try to get a camera to Mani and to somehow get the pix back.
It's early Saturday Morning. Over in Nepal it is Saturday evening and the sun is going down. For Mane, that means gas lamp to see by and stove fueled by yak dung to stay warm. They try not to burn wood because it is devastating the forests. We are at $2,200.00. Just $300 to go! If you feel moved and able, we appreciate any assistance.
Thanks so much Adam and Homa! How kind!

Mani Sherpa was my Sherpa almost all of the way from Lukla to Mount Everest Base Camp. He is a member of the Untouchable Caste. As a result, when power was brought to his village, he and 5 other families were not allowed to be given power. They are shunned and others cannot interact with them. Social norms are changing and now they can get power, but the cost to run it in to the six houses is $2,500.00. That is a lot for poor villagers like Mani and the other untouchables who still have difficulty finding gainful employment. Even if they do, that amount is nearly impossible for them. Mani really was a life saver to me on my trek. Please help me help him. Read more: HERE
